Athens : We spent the first two days in Athens, plenty of time to see what we wanted to see. Then we picked up our rental car at the airport and drove south to Peloponnese.

Getting Around Greece : Much of the adventure is getting there, getting around, and getting home again. It was a good idea NOT to have a car in Athens. One wouldn't have helped on the hills anyway. The city is meant for walking, unless you have a scooter or motorcycle. The city is used to tourists, and much is translated into English. Outside Athens, driving is exactly like in the US, if you can decipher the road signs, only some of which are in English. We made wild guesses and did fine.

Nemea : The Lonely Planet guide described a town of wineries, with a circuit to drive from winery to winery. Even with signs, we never found it. The town was so deserted that it was spooky. We guessed it wasn't wine and tourist season, if there ever is one. Still, we saw lots of vineyards and found one open winery.
