Miyajima : Miyajima Island has been worshipped as a divine island since ancient times. This is why the shrine was built on its shore. We rode a ferry from the end of the Hiroshima trolley line. It is a favorite place of many Japanese. Yes, it was a rainy day when we were there, but that only intensified its beauty.

My Solo Visit to Nagasaki : Jon sent me off one day to find my way on the train to Nagasaki, where I had lots of help from the locals. I guess I wasn't blending in very well. I seemed to be the only non-Japanese in the whole city that day, so many people were willing to help.

Shorinji Kempo : Jon surprised me by admitting that he had been taking Shorinji Kempo classes for more than a year. He has a brown belt and is working on getting a higher level brown belt. This dojo was built by Mr. Matsuda, Sensei. It's adjacent to his home.

Visit with Shinohara Family : Every member of the Shinohara, except Nahoko, has been to our house. On my trip to Japan, they picked me up at Narita Airport, again at Haneda Airport, and took me back to Narita, too! I am grateful.
